Bimini

This Place is small.
We walked around the first day, down a street with a few shops.
Told Penny I thought town was the other way.
Nope. This is the town.

You are looking at “Downtown Alicetown”.

Bought a Bahamian flag and some beer and found a neat little bakery.
Then we went one block over, up a hill, to the other side of the island and saw this.

About a mile of white sand beach and multi colored water.
Took a swim &played in the waves a bit then headed back to the boat to go for a dinghy ride.

Some more pics of the island.

We came across this house, called “The Dolphin House”. Met the man who built and decorated it named Ashley Saunders.

He's an artist, author, poet and historian.
He's written two books on the history and native people of the Bahamas.
He was proud to show us his crafts and jewelry shop and the adjoining museum.
Upstairs are rooms for rent.

Got dinner from this place, CJ's on the beach.
Conch fritters, Fried conch, Lobster with veggies and a tossed salad.
Really good local food.

Looks like we'll stay here one more day, Wednesday, then head out on Thursday down to Gun Key, about 20 miles south, then go East across the Bahama Banks. It's about 80 miles over like 12 feet of water. You have to navigate it visually, constantly looking out for sand bars and coral heads. You can't make it in one day so we'll have to anchor out on “The Bank” for one night.

Then into Chub Key for a night or two. From Chub it's an easy day sail to New Providence and Nassau.
Let you know how it turns out.

Hi Dan and Penny, I am so glad things are doing well for you. My Dad had told me how tricky it was entering Bimini and how one of the boats tried to cut in and got grounded. Not to much changes hear still
