Picked up this mackerel on the way & had him for dinner.

Left Gun Key and had to motor across the Bahama Banks into the wind for 12 hours.
Here we are in Chub Key.

This is from Penny's facebook cause I'm too lazy to write.

We sailed 12 hours yesterday and made it all the way to Chub Key, anchored and had a drink. the last 13 miles were really rough and coming into an anchorage at night is always scary. What a treat it was to to go to the cockpit this morning and see the beauty that surrounded us!
OK that's the last time I will bore you by saying how pretty it is. It is 4 pm and overcast right now and not nearly so pretty as it is when the sun is shining. Chub key is a small rather desolate piece of real estate on the edge of the Berry Island group in the Bahamas.
It has a good reputation as a fishing Mecca and a few years back, before the real estate bubble burst, investors tried to develop a high end marina and vacation home resort. Today it looks like "shithole #3" (ask Dan about the reference) in the making with unfinished houses, an unfinished clubhouse, a hot tub that looks like a science experiment gone bad, and an infinity pool that is definitely looking like it's days are numbered.
On the plus side, after we decided there was nothing man made here of any interest, we loaded a bunch of stuff in the dinghy and went exploring. Of course we found a lovely little islet with a lot of coral and a real healthy fish population. We snorkeled for an hour or so because the water is not quite warm enough to stay in longer. We saw blue coral and our favorites, the trigger fish, both queen and gray triggers....and lots of other tasty meals just swimming around.
We are just resting up here on our way to Nassau tomorrow. Wonder if they have West Marine or Walmart...it will be the last big place until we hit the Dominican Republic.
