Little Farmers Cay

Little Farmers Cay
4/20/2012 – 4/22/2012

Sorry about not posting dates earlier but we've been without internet connections for the past week and I lost track of what day it was.

Little Farmers Cay is a little spit of an island about ½ mile by 1.5 miles. Everyone here, about 60 of them, are descendants of 2 couples.

Tied up to a mooring ball, poured a rum & coke and settled in before going to the island.
Got ashore & went up to the “Ocean Cabin” where they take care of everything here.

Walked in and met 8 other cruisers who were there for dinner .
Had a beer with them and were treated to a few bites of fresh lobster.
Yum. Good folks, a couple of whom we'd met a week earlier. Small ocean here.

We were walking along a road and stopped to pick some wild cotton when we met an island icon named J.R. who has a woodcarving shop.
But mostly he showed us all the bushes, trees and plants he cares for. All with medicinal & practical uses. Spent about an hour with him. Then he taught us how to blow the conch shell. Took a while but we kinda got it. It was a riot. All of us laughing. Us trying to blow that dam conch. Penny did better than I. Go figure, We told J.R. We'd be back tomorrow after we'd practiced a bit.
This is the real Bahamas.

It's Wednesday 4/25 when I finaly gat a chance to post this, and the Staniels Cay post.
Internet service is hit miss here and I was trying to post at Farmers Cay when we lost our connection.

Anyway, we're in Georgetown, Great Exuma now for Family Days and the big sailing regatta.
It's a 3 day competition with all the local handbuilt boat.
Hope to post some more pics tomorrow.
