St Thomas, USVI

St Thomas, US Virgin Islands

I must be island fever. I've been so lazy about keeping up with this blog. So finally taking a few moments to add some thoughts.

We've been here in St Thomas for a week or so. It's familiar ground and we definitely aren't in a hurry to get moving. The long range weather forecasts show no storms heading our way. We like it here.

Good news. We didn't have to get the boat hauled for the rudder repair. It's not that bad. I took some underwater pics and consulted the guy at the boatyard. He said we could wait till we got to Trinidad to get it repaired. Yesterday and today I dove the boat and patched the rudder with underwater epoxy. We'll keep an eye of it.

After we left Puerto Rico we spent about a week on the south side of Viequez. Just hopping from cove to cove. Esperanza was a quaint little beach town with a lot of bars, restaurants and gift shops. And horses walking around town.

This one peculiar local house is heavily decorated. Thought it worth a couple of pics.

After Esperanza we anchored for a night in a bio-luminescent bay. They have little critters in the water that light up when disturbed.

It's been really windy the past couple of weeks. Upwards of 20 knots. So we headed to Culebra, a small island off Puerto Rico, to wait for the winds to calm before heading to St Thomas.

At St Thomas we anchored in Charlotte Amalie for a few days. C.A. is the main town and port on St Thomas. It's a nice big bay with ferry service, a sea plane base, coast guard and a cruise ship dock. The town itself is neat. They turned all the old waterfront warehouses into shoppig malls. We did our shopping and some tourist stuff. Took the dinghy over to Hassle Island to check out some old Brittish fortifications and snorkled off a small beach there. Love the color in the local rocks here.

After C.A. we anchored in a place called Secret Harbour. A lovely little bay near the eastern end.
Will be moving this afternoon over to Red Hook to have the water maker service, and we need some cooking gas and boat fuel.
